Chadlington Reserves started the new year by bouncing back in the league with a fine away victory at Eynsham Reserves in Division Four.
Their opppnents were the form team before Christmas having won 5 games on the trot, and with Chad being defeated by leaders Stonesfield 1-0 before the break the game was set up to be a tough test.
The Reserves however benefited from the First Team not having a game and could strengthen in a couple of areas for the match.
They started the game strong and took the lead through Ellis Godin pouncing on a goalkeeper mistake after just 16 minutes. The lead shoulld have been extended but from a misguided goal kick 10 minutes later, Eynsham equalised as the ball landed straight to Marcus Owsnett who sent the ball back over Chad keeper Josh Betts. This was the first league goal conceeded by them since the end of October.
Further chances were created by Chad with Matt Chadwick and Charlie White missing the best of them. As the game approached half time the advantage was restored when Alfie Peachey scored to make it 2-1. Just minutes later Godin grabbed his second by neatly heading in from a Jacob Hazlewood corner. 3-1 at half time.
Just 10 minutes into the second half Chadwick finally found his scoring bootsand got his reward as he neatly slotted home from an excellent through ball from Hazlewood. It looked as though the game was won but Eynsham soon got their second of the game as Kieran Clarke burst straight through the middle of Chad, evading last ditch tackles to score. At 4-2 suddenly the game seemed close again and Eynsham continued to press, never giving up hope of getting back into the game.
With the introduction of veteran Andy Watson and Jack Legg, Chad looked to regroup and re-establish their dominance. The 2 subs combined as Watson cool and calm as ever squared to Legg inside the box who lashed the ball past the changed Eynsham keeper to restore a 3 goal advantage.
There was time for one more goal though and it was Godin who grabbed it and his hat-trick. It was a fine finish after a 20 yard run through Eynshams back line. Final score 6-2.
