Chadlington First Team got the Division One campaign off to a winning start as they thumped Bampton United 6-1 at home.
Coming off the back of two good wins in pre-season, Chadlington fielded a strong squad to take on Bampton who had finished well below Chad in the league last season.
The home side opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when last seasons top scorer Matt Chadwick poked the ball into the net, capitalising on hesitation in the Bampton back line.
Chadlington were on top and 15 minutes later they had an opportunity to double the lead. Lee Woodward being caught late by a takle inside the box resulted in a penalty being awarded but Chadwick missed the target.
The slim advantage that they had was then given up when a high boucing through ball was tipped into the air by Chad keeper Joe Bennett into the path of Chris Laurence who slotted home to make it 1-1. Despite Laurance being off-side when the ball was kicked and the flag being raised, the referee ruled that the goal should stand.
Going into half time at 1-1, Chad looked shocked at how they were not comfortably ahead. They came out though for the second half with all guns blazing. Their engergy and quality blew Bampton away. The fight of the visitors wained as Chad piled on the pressure which soon resulted in another penalty being given. This time Jordan Godfrey stepped up to restore the lead and make it 2-1.
From then on the goals flowed at regular intervals. Lee Woodward joined the scoring party by grabbing two goals in quick succession and Alfie Peachey added to make the scoreline 5-1. Jacob Hazlewood rounded off the rout to make it 6-1 at the final whistle.
This was a dominant and patient display from Chad and the win gives them great confidence as they go into a tough test away to Middle Barton next week.
Team: Bennett, Webb (c), Bayliss, M Taylor, Holland, Hazlewood, Hughes, Morley, Godfrey, Chadwick, Woodward. Subs: Peachey, Foster.
Chadlington Reserves also got off to a flyer in the league on Saturday as they beat Ascott Rangers 4-1.
With a new look squad containing 3 debutants, the Reserves took their time to get into the game and scored against the run of play when Ashley Godin (from full back) struck them into a 1-0 lead. The goal turned the tide of the game and Ethan Taylor double the lead before half time.
In the second half, Ascott reduced the deficit to 2-1 by capitalising when Chad had failed to clear the ball in their own box effectively.
Ascott contined to create chances but new goalkeeper Mike Medland created an imposing figure and blocked the visitors out.
Up the other end, the Reserves continued to create chances and during the game they struck the bar 3 times. Further goals came through Charlie White and Matt Chadwick who came on late in the game to secure the win. Final score 4-1.
The win was a great start to the season having not won on the first day of the season since 2015. It provides them with a positive base to build from as they go into next weeks Jack Busby first round tie against Chipping Norton Town.
Team: Medland, Godin, Foster, Jeffcock (c), Hardiman, Legg, E Taylor, Waller, Peachey, Jordan, White. Subs: Hobden, Pearce, Chadwick.
