Chadlington Reserves finished the season on a high on Saturday as they thrashed Eynsham SSC Reserves 5-0 away. This was the first time they had secured back to back wins since November having beaten Brize Norton Reserves 2-0 the week before with Alfie Peachey netting both.
It was a strong side that was assembled once again with a good mix of youth and experience. 7 teenagers were included in the squad who provided plenty of energy on a hot day.
It was drummed into the team before the game that 3 points were vital in securing a top half finish in the league and early goals would seal the game. Ollie Jordan duly obliged and grabbed 2 goals in the first half to take his season tally to 9 goals.
A 2-0 cushion at half time was welcome but did not reflect the dominance that Chadlington had. This continued in the second half with Eynsham rarely threatening stand in keeper Matt Chadwick with the rock solid Jonnie Jeffcock and Graham Harrison marshaling the defence.
Three further goals came via Lee Woodward, Ethan Taylor and Alfie Peachey to make the scoreline 5-0. It could have been so many more but with the end of the season looming, many players wasted good chances with the thought of glory in their eyes. Charlie White in particular unlucky not to add to his 6 goals for the season.
Andy Wiffen in his final game for Chadlington before semi retirement bursting forward at every opportunity was unlucky not to find the net also.
At the final whistle the team could reflect on a good season that brought more points, more goals, and less conceded than any season since returning the the W&D League 5 years ago.
The team also passed on their thanks to Andy Wiffen, Graham Harrisson along with Craig Harris from the week before for all that they have done for the club before they hang up their boots.
Team: Chadwick, Hardiman (jnr), Jeffcock, Harrisson, Wiffen (c), Legg, Taylor E, Davin, Peachey, Jordan, Pearce. Subs: White, Godfrey, Woodward.
