Chadlington First Team beat top of the table Tower Hill on Saturday to rise to 5th in Division One.
With the game in doubt due to the already saturated pitch and more rain falling there was a late pitch inspection at West Witney. After a lot of deliberation referee Ben James passed the pitch as being playable and the game kicked off just 15 minutes late.
Chadlington could see that their opposition was less than keen to play the encounter and sensed that they maybe able to capitalise on this. However this was not to be the case, and Tower raced into a two goal lead inside 15 minutes. The slippery conditions were causing Chadlington to make mistakes and they were being clinically punished by Tower.
The call from the sidelines was to steady the ship and stay in the game. There was belief that despite a two goal deficit Chad had the fire power to strike back and their football steadily improved.
Up stepped Lee Woodward to smash a hat-trick to take the lead in the game, his direct approach saw him terrorise the Tower back line. Chadlington were lighter on their feet in the mud and seemed to want the game more. In the second half the mistakes and uncertainty that plagued Chad in the first half were now happening to Tower.
The home side brought the game back to 3-3 and rallied for a moment but it was short lived. 16 year old Ewan Thomas who was dominant in the center of midfield showed amazing composure to restore the lead with a fine strike past the hapless Tower goal keeper.
The game was then sealed by the returning Ashley Scearce who headed in a fine corner from 6 yards out. Final score 5-3.
Team: Bayliss, Foster, Webb (c), Walker, Holland, Morley, Hughes, Thomas, Hazlewood, Woodward, Chadwick. Subs: Scearce, Betts, Shadbolt.
