Simply the BEST
"cometh the hour; cometh the man"
In a two game finale, at the end of a long and tiring season, with the swirling wind and relentless rain a brave dozen arrived at Carteron FC for the BLUE League Trophy Final U9. This is essentially the first match since we started as mini's 4 years ago where it came down to a single winning team.
AND WE WON
Up until now scores have been recorded and teams have been seeded but we never knew what the end result of our efforts looked like, however on Saturday 9th May the end result was as Clear as Crystal..
Wheeler, Anthony, Hughes, Guest, England, Ford, Fagan (Capt).............
Off we go, Kingston look a few sizes bigger than Chad and their fans were vocal and intimidating but that did not deter your heroes from getting hold of the game early and keeping this electric match in some form of harmony. Hughes and Anthony were absolutely solid at the back and the blonde haired wonders in midfield worked tirelessly to keep possession and press the KIngston half. This pressure paid off when a lovely move by England released Guest who slipped the ball to Fagan on the far post and whose shot was squeezed home just on half time...............1.0
Second half was much of the same and Wheeler pulled off some great keeping to maintain our lead. Guest had two wonderful runs down the flank and crossed to find Fagan who desperately tried to get on the end of the ball but was mm away. despite the pinball wizard nature of the game the whistle blew and the first game ended 1.0
Wheeler, Anthony, Hughes, Chapman, Thomas, Cottrell, Burman, (Webb)
All we needed was a draw.
The coaches asked the lads if for 15 minutes they could bring every element of the previous games and training together for one final show of team work...............they did not disappoint
Every team member worked for each other, Chapman went up a gear and showed the Kingston team who was boss, Thomas rolled his sleeves and meant business from the start, Burman covered every blade of grass, Cottrell playing up front made a nuisance of himself and this upset the back line of the Kingston Colts defence, Webb came on and looked like a ninja in his headband.....all being supported by the defence line and goalkeeping uber hero.
This wasnt pretty football, Kingston kept the same team that played the first game but they did not expect the sheer tenacity and determination that faced them in the form of 7 mighty whites
The Whistle blew
The mums and dad leapt in joy
The coaches crashed to their knees
The lads raised their hands and then warmly consoled the colts in a show of dignity.............they never for one minute had anything other than victory in their minds
