Opening Day Derby Win

Chadlington First Team opened up their Division One season with a win over local rivals Kingham AB in unusual surroundings.

For a start the match was played on a Sunday afternoon, unheard-of for Chadlington in recent times and secondly there was a bumper crowd at Kingham watching. This was due to the weekend being attended by a Groundhop organisation who certainly made the game into an event.

Not only was this match the last of the weekend it was also the best attended with 177 counted watching.

Chadlington quickly got off to a good start in the game and were 1-0 up after just 5 minutes via Jarvis Morley. A second goal was added by big man Rocky Burton just 15 minutes later as he powered in a header from a smart Ashley Godin cross.

At half time the score was 2-0 to Chad and the game was comfortable for them. More goals should have followed but the second half became scrappy as players wilted in the sun.

The inevitable happened of course and Kingham got a goal back to make the game more interesting, however with just 2 minutes remaining their chances of causing an upset were soon dashed.

It was a dominant display by Chad and the only thing they did wrong was not put the game to bed earlier in the match. Regardless, a win against local rivals Kingham is always something to celebrate which the players certainly did!

FT 2-1 Chad.

Team: Bayliss, Cleevely, Walker, Gray, Newton-Grain, Hazlewood, Godin, E Bennett, Korge, Morley, Burton. Subs: Foster, Woodward, Tate.
