It was cup weekend and Chadlington First Team travelled to Cassington Rangers in the third round of the Fred Ford Cup.
Cassington are top of Division Two and have only lost 2 games all season and so a tough encounter was expected and so it proved.
Despite this Chadlington raced into a 2 goal lead via captain Ethan Bennett and Sam Lewis. In the second half though, Cassington hit back with two goals of their own and forced the game into extra time.
Late in extra time there was heartbreak for Chad as Cassington grabbed a controversial winner. Final score 3-2 AET.
In was the Quarter Final stage of the Jack Busby Memorial Trophy and Chadlington Reserves also faced Division Two opponents. This time it was Hatherop and it was the first time that Chadlington had played at their picturesque ground in the sleepy Cotswold village.
Despite an unconventional build up to the game where it wasn't certain that Hatherop even had a team together they eventually trotted out less than 5 minutes before kick off. It was clear that Hatherops biggest danger was in set pieces as they used their dominance in the air effectively to cause all sorts of issues for the Chad defence.
However, going forward Chad were dangerous themselves and took a 15 minute lead with a goal by Finlay Beggin. At half time it stayed 1-0.
In the second half it was once again a battle but another goal by George Slatter settled the nerves and the game was closed out comfortably.
Full time 2-0 and the Reserves are now through to the Jack Busby semi final against Milton Under Wychwood Reserves on Wednesday 29th March at Clanfield.
